At HWU, the Student Welfare Service provides a counselling service with a fully trained and qualified personal counsellor covering personal matters. For students with special needs and disabilities, a team of special needs advisers is available for advice and support.
There is also an Academic Counsellor.
Students can arrange appointments with any of these staff through the welfare office.
Also at HWU, there is an Equality and Diversity team whose responsibility is to co-ordinate work across the whole university to promote good race relations and support practices which ensure equal opportunities for all students. This includes help and support for students with families to find suitable accommodation, and how to find a school for children. The Chaplaincy offers religious services and confidential counselling for all faiths and is open to anyone with or without religious beliefs. There is also a wive’s group organised by the Chaplaincy providing mutual support and a social network for wives of International students.
Students have access to UmU campus student services and student union services, including counselling services, support and advice on all social and welfare issue, Chaplain services, health care, and psychiatric needs. Students with disabilities or special needs will be attended to by the Business School’s student advisors and counsellors are available for all academic matters. In addition, there is a mentor programme where Swedish students will take care of incoming students, either individually or in small groups.
