    MSPME successfully addresses the strategic and holistic demands of modern projects in contemporary organisations by providing students with a systematic understanding of knowledge in an emerging field that combines:

    • Project management as a process to deliver complex change; and
    • Strategic management as a process for formulating and implementing organisational strategy
    Develop knowledge to critically examine theoretical and practical perspectives, develop key employability skills such as teamwork and leadership, whilst developing competencies to facilitate business transformation, continuous improvement, organizational change, value creation and strategy implementation.

  • About and Awarded degrees

    Masters in Strategic Project Management (European), known as MSPME, is a unique programme in the field of Business Management. It is the only masters programme that takes an international perspective to the strong and growing demand for strategic thinkers who can deliver core business activities and realise competitive strategies in public, private and voluntary sector organisations through the implementation of strategic projects. MSPME successfully addresses the strategic and holistic demands of modern projects in contemporary organisations by providing students with a systematic understanding of knowledge in an emerging field that combines project management and strategic management.

     

    The program is organized by Heriot-Watt University and Umeå University. The program has been running since 2006. On completion students, will be on awarded a two Master degree one from each university:

     

    1. Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, Scotland - MSc in Strategic Project Management

    2. Umeå University, Umeå, Sweden - MSc in Business Administration

  • Semester 1:

    Heriot Watt University - Edinburgh, UK (September - December)

    Semester 1 will start mid-September and is designed to lay the foundations for developing an in-depth understanding of the management of Strategic projects, programmes and portfolios within an overall organizational context.

    Semester 2:

    Heriot Watt University – Edinburgh, Dubai or Malaysia (January – May)

    Semester 2 is designed to build upon the foundations developed in Semester 1 and offers participants choices both in terms of their location of study and the content of their courses. Participants can choose to continue in Edinburgh or travel to Heriot-Watt University’s Dubai or Malaysia campuses where the same programme of study is available.

    Semester 3:

    Umeå University, Umeå, Sweden (August – January)

    During semester 3 the participants will undertake two courses and complete a Masters dissertations. During their Masters Thesis, the students will conduct original research. The previous courses, together with the Research Philosophy provides the necessary skills to formulate a comprehensive research proposal.

     

    The Masters Thesis, as well as preparing the students for employment provides the necessary grounding for those who wish to pursue a PhD. Some of the previous graduates have published their Thesis work in research journals and presented papers at conferences.
